EPDA

The European Parkinson's Disease Association (EPDA) has provided a forum to work in partnership with European PD and other neurological organisations, and the World Health Organisation. This partnership has enabled the development of research projects in to quality of life issues and conferences for multidisciplinary teams and people with Parkinson's. These are funded by external sources such as the European Union and the pharmaceutical industry. Some projects are piloted in the UK and are transferable to other countries and others are developed as a result of partnership with various countries throughout the world.

    The EPDA is a non-political, religiously neutral, and non-profit making, organisation concerned only with the health and welfare of people living with Parkinson's disease and their families.

    Its aim is to:
    Promote international understanding of Parkinsons's disease, enabling people living with Parkinson's and their families to draw on best caring practice world-wide, to access the latest medical and surgical advice and thus make informed choices to achieve the best quality of life possible.

    To this end, the EPDA seeks to:
  • Establish the extent of Parkinson's disease in Europe
  • Provide and continually update medical and caring best practice
  • Make this information readily available to patients and carers of all walks of life throughout Europe
  • Offer people with Parkinson's and their families, through information technology and international networking, a community of information and assistance
  • Promote and encourage co-operations between scientific and other professional groups enabling advancement of health
  • Motivate, promote and support new and existing national organisations to provide optimum care and rehabilitation
  • Promote co-operation and exchange of experiences between the member associations
